Ghent University PhD Research Position FULL DETAILS

The PhD student will be investigating the rights of the individuals in the context of secondary uses of health data for research purposes in the view of the applicable regulatory frameworks.

In particular, the PhD researcher should identify and assess the relevant provisions in applicable regulatory frameworks in the EU, including the GDPR, upcoming Data Governance Act and the European Health Data Space, which can strengthen the rights of the individuals when their data are being processed for research purposes.This legal analysis should be based on the relevant theoretical framework on the principles of transparency, fairness and lawfulness in processing of health data.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Ghent University Faculty of Law and Criminology PhD research Job, applicants are expected to meet the following conditions:

  • You have a master degree in Law or a relevant discipline
  • You have a passion for research and strong analytical skills.
  • You are willing to familiarise yourself with interdisciplinary methodologies in health privacy research and follow literature in bioethics, health and data protection law, and health informatics.
  • You have an impressive track record (study results, publications and/or awards)
  • You are able to work independently and take initiative, yet you are also a team player.
  • You have high organisational skills, and able to meet the deadlines.
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Existing educational, research or professional background in EU data protection law and/or health law will be an asset for this position.

The Elizabeth Buckland Memorial Scholarships from Canadian Mennonite University will provide $1,000 to the winning candidates in Canada.

Any foreign student studying full-time in the MA-PCD program will receive the Elizabeth Buckland Memorial Scholarship. Submission of a 500-word essay demonstrating demonstrated leadership qualities and projecting plans after graduation from the program are among the requirements.

Eligibility criteria for the Elizabeth Buckland Memorial Scholarships.

  • Applicants must be international student enrolled full-time in the MA-PCD program.
  • Applicants must be proficient in English Language.
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following tests:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Minimum scores are 550 for the paper-based TOEFL, 213 for the computer-based TOEFL, and 80 for the Internet-based TOEFL.
  • Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTest): Minimum scores are 4.5 in reading and listening and 4.0 in speaking and writing.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Min. score of 6.5 based on the Academic Training track.

Students may take the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) to demonstrate their English language proficiency. PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language proficiency test designed to measure reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills used in an academic setting. Canadian Mennonite University requires a minimum score of 59 on PTE Academic.

With an enrolment of 1607 students, Canadian Mennonite Institution (CMU) is a private Mennonite university in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The university was established in 1999 with three campuses: Shaftesbury, Menno Simons College, and a campus at The University of Winnipeg.

Canadian Mennonite University was incorporated in 1999, through the amalgamation of Canadian Mennonite Bible College (established in 1947), Concord College (founded as Mennonite Brethren Bible College in 1944), and Menno Simons College (established in 1988).
